The unnamed woman was diagnosed with 'savant syndrome' following the crash - an extremely rare condition which leaves people with amazing musical, artistic or mathematical abilities. The skier developed incredible mental abilities after suffering a brain injury during massive crash on the slopes. There are only around 50 reported cases worldwide.

In an essay written for US online magazine xoJane, the young unnamed woman said she suffered the injury during a family ski vacation.

"About halfway down the hill, at a speed that was definitely too fast, on a hill that was turning icy quick, I caught an edge and went flying," she said.

"I blacked out when I hit. And the only reason I know this is because when I came to my brother was crouched next to me and before he had been at the top of the hill."
She said that despite the crash she continued to ski that day - even though she was suffering from a headache and shoulder pain.
She was later found to have suffered a dislocation and broken collarbone, the Daily Mail reports.
A doctor later diagnosed her as suffering from mild concussion.

The woman is one of a tiny number of people to wake up following a brain trauma with savant syndrome.

Some experts believe the condition is caused by the right side of the brain compensating for injury to the left side.

In the weeks after the accident she suffered from vertigo and said she felt a "weird disconnect between what I was seeing and what my brain was processing."
She was eventually admitted at the hospital for further testing - but initially left doctors baffled.
The woman said that she could remember everywhere she had been with incredible accuracy, and draw near-perfect pictures of the buildings.

She said she told her neurologist that she could 'remember too much.'
She was finally diagnosed with acquired savant syndrome following a year of testing.
